Choral/close-harmony arrangement
Whether you sing in a school choir, or professional close-harmony group, Jim can write an arrangement that is tailored to suit your needs.
The fee for a typical vocal arrangement is £350 ($530 US), though this may be higher for an unusually long or complex commission.
The score is delivered by email as a PDF document on or before an agreed date and a MIDI file can also be included upon request.
If you require a piano reduction to be included in the score, this can be provided at £4.46 ($6.50 US) per bar; no other typesetting fees are charged for vocal arrangements.
(N.B. invoices are made out in Pounds Sterling - conversions to US dollars are for reference only)
Orchestration
Jim's expertise is in orchestrating for the instruments commonly found in the classical symphony orchestra, though he has scored for bass dulcian and serpent! If you are looking for a big band or other jazz ensemble arrangement, he recommends that you contact Ben Cottrell of the Beats & Pieces Big Band.
Orchestration fees are set according to Musician's Union minimum rates and vary according to the number of instrumental parts being scored; for example, an arrangement for string quartet is charged at £4.46 ($6.50 US) per bar, whereas an arrangement for symphony orchestra is charged at £8.94 ($13.10 US) per bar; these are exclusive of typesetting fees.
The score and parts are delivered by email as a PDF document on or before an agreed date, and a MIDI file can also be included upon request.
Composition
Fees for original compositions are a matter of negotiation and will depend upon the specific requirements of the commission.
For reference, an unaccompanied choral composition would cost £200-£350 ($300-$500 US) per minute of music, depending upon the complexity of the commission; this is exclusive of typesetting fees.
The score (and parts, if required) is delivered by email as a PDF document on or before an agreed date, and a MIDI file can also be included upon request.
Typesetting
Typesetting fees are set according to Musician's Union minimum rates: £3.59 ($5.30 US) per page for individual instruments and £10.79 ($15.90 US) per page for multiple staves. Fees for typesetting full symphonic scores are by negotiation.
